Two men have been arrested after a woman told police she was raped twice in separate attacks as she made her way home from a night out.
Police said they are ‘robustly dealing’ with the incident where a woman was raped in Swindon – and then attacked again by a second man.
The 28-year-old woman told police she was walking home in the Cricklade Road area of the town just after midnight on Saturday night and was dragged into an alleyway between Handel Street and Poulton Street and attacked by a black man with a shaved head.
After the attack, she struggled her way home, and was subjected to a second and entirely separate attack by another black man, this time with stocky build and a muscular frame, in Ferndale Road.
Police said both incidents happened some time between midnight and 2.50am and two men – aged 34 and 37 – have been arrested on suspicion of rape. The 34-year-old has been released on police bail while the 37-year-old remains in police custody.
“Firstly, I would like to commend the victim in this case for contacting Wiltshire Police immediately after getting home – this allowed us to gather crucial evidence,” said Det Sgt Phil Walker, from Swindon police.
“Wiltshire Police are robustly investigating both incidents and are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious between midnight on Saturday and 2.50am on Sunday in the Ferndale Road, Handel Street and Poulton Street areas of Swindon,” he added.
